The perfect at home caramel latte
I love a good latte from a coffee shop. I do not love spending $5 on one!
I’ve tried SO many recipes to find the “perfect at home latte” and wouldn’t you know I kind of created this one on accident?
Here is my recipe for the perfect at home caramel latte.
I’m giving you measurements, but I typically just eyeball it, because who has time for measuring and stuff before coffee?!
Ingredients
8 oz (1 cup) brewed coffee (I like to make it strong) I’m currently using Lavazza.
6 oz (3/4 cup) milk
1 TBSP sugar
caramel sauce
*milk frother (mine was about $8 at target. If I knew what I was doing here, I would link it for you. I’m telling you, you NEED this in your life if you love a good foam!)
I start my coffee then work on my milk. If you have an espresso machine I’m sure that would be even better, but my basic Mr. Coffee does the job for this. In a small saucepan combine your milk, sugar and caramel sauce. I probably use 1-2 tablespoons of caramel sauce (I have never actually measured that part) Heat until steamy, but do not boil it. I tilt the pan sideways a bit and use my milk frother to get all that foamy goodness. You want your milk to almost double in size.
Pour your frothed milk over your coffee, and there you have it! The perfect at home caramel latte.
notes:
I have actually made this dairy free(ish-the caramel has a little milk in it) by using almond milk with a splash of nut pods in place of milk. It is still delicious.
The caramel sauce I use is Smuckers sundae syrup. It has 20g of sugar per 2 tablespoons, so you could leave out the additional 1 tablespoon of sugar if that is sweet enough for you.
You can use an immersion blender in place of the frother, however the frother is easier to quickly clean!
You can also skip the saucepan and heat your milk mixture in the microwave. Just be sure to use a large enough mug so that you have room for your milk to double in size + add your coffee.
